Picture a room in Atlanta, packed with people, and a singer who has no interest in sticking to the plan. That’s Tasha Unscripted, the new live album from Tasha Cobbs Leonard.
She grew up in Jesup, Georgia. Then she released Grace, and “Break Every Chain” went platinum and earned her a Grammy Award. Live albums became her lane after that, including One Place Live, Heart. Passion. Pursuit., Royalty: Live at the Ryman, and Hymns.
Then 2025 brought TASHA, her first studio album after more than ten years of mostly live recordings. Gospel sat beside R&B, hip hop, and pop, and everything was carefully built. It left one question hanging: what happens when she walks back into a crowd?
Tasha Unscripted is the answer. She recorded it live in Atlanta earlier this year and let the music go where the moment took it. No locked script. The songs stretch, and the audience becomes part of the sound.
She didn’t come alone. Jonathan McReynolds, Mickey Guyton, Karen Clark Sheard, Kierra Sheard-Kelly, Le’Andria Johnson, William Murphy, and Israel Houghton all show up, with others too. That’s a lot of talent in one room, and somehow nobody had a script.
Start with “Gracefully Broken/Who The Son Sets Free,” with Houghton. It ties two worship songs together, and the mood moves from surrender to celebration without a seam.
Live recordings built her name, and this album takes her back to them. She trusts the room, the musicians, the congregation, and the moment to decide what comes next. She doesn’t need control to be at her best. She needs people, and a little space.
