Early Life and Background
Tasha Page-Lockhart was born Natasha Marie Page on March 21, 1983, in Detroit, Michigan, into a family already deeply rooted in gospel music and ministry. Her mother, Pastor Lisa Charise Page Brooks, sang as part of the acclaimed female gospel group Witness and later co-founded Restoration Fellowship Church International in Detroit. Her stepfather, Bishop Michael Alan Brooks, was a member of the pioneering gospel group Commissioned. Her grandfather, Warren Harris, sang with The Monitors, a group affiliated with the Motown label.
Music entered Tasha’s life early. As a child, she lent her voice to commercial jingles for brands including Chrysler, Bisquick, Kmart, the Detroit Red Wings, and United Way. In 2001, she became the youngest member of her mother’s group, Witness, recording the album An Appointed Time with them.
Tasha’s path was not a straight line into music, though. As a teenager she loved basketball and once dreamed of playing in the WNBA. Personal challenges led her to leave high school before graduating, and she eventually moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to refocus on her faith and her music.
Career: Winning Sunday Best and Building a Solo Catalog
Sunday Best Season 6 and Signing with Kirk Franklin
Tasha’s solo career took off in 2013 when she competed on Sunday Best, BET’s reality competition series for new gospel talent. She won season six, which earned her a national recording contract with judge Kirk Franklin‘s RCA-affiliated label, Fo Yo Soul Recordings. She became the first female artist signed to the imprint.
Here Right Now (2014)
Franklin produced Tasha’s debut album, Here Right Now, in its entirety. Released in 2014, the project peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Gospel chart and featured the hit singles “Different” and “Faith Come Alive.” Two of the album’s songs were co-written by Tasha and her then-husband, Clifton Lockhart.
To support the album, Tasha toured venues including House of Blues and Live Nation stages, and joined the McDonald’s Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour. She has continued releasing music since, including the songs “Why Not Me” and “He’s On The Way.”[IMAGE: Tasha Page-Lockhart with Kirk Franklin at a gospel awards show]
Acting and Media Work
Beyond music, Tasha has built a visible acting career. She played the role of “Netta” in Tyler Perry’s stage production Madea on the Run, touring 20 cities with the show. She also appeared in the Lifetime holiday film Kirk Franklin’s The Night Before Christmas. She has hosted the podcast Not Just For Church Folk and authored the book And the Winner is… Tasha Page Lockhart Uncut.
Personal Life: Marriage, Divorce, and a Second Chapter
First Marriage to Clifton Lockhart
Tasha married Clifton James “Cliff” Lockhart in July 2006. The couple moved back to Detroit in 2008, the same year their son, Clifton James Lockhart II, was born. Tasha also has an older son, Ronald Hughes, born in 2001. Tasha and Cliff separated in 2017 and finalized their divorce in 2018.
Second Marriage to T. Vernon House
On June 8, 2019, in Detroit, Tasha married T. Vernon House, an author and founder of House Global Ministries, Inc. The couple’s wedding was themed “House of Love” and drew a guest list of R&B and gospel artists. Tasha now goes by Tasha Page House in some contexts, though she continues to perform professionally as Tasha Page-Lockhart.
Life Coaching and Ministry
Tasha is a certified Life Coach and the founder of HartFelt Coaching Services, which focuses on helping others through recovery and personal growth. She also serves faithfully as the Worship Leader at her parents’ church, Restoration Fellowship Church International, keeping her rooted in the ministry that shaped her from childhood.
Rise to Prominence and Influence
Tasha’s win on Sunday Best placed her in a lineage of reality-television gospel breakout stars, but her family pedigree gave her a credibility inside the gospel industry that few contestants had walking in. As the daughter of a member of Witness and the stepdaughter of a member of Commissioned, she represented a kind of gospel royalty even before Here Right Now hit shelves. Her Grammy-produced-caliber debut, helmed entirely by Kirk Franklin, cemented her as a serious vocalist rather than a talent-show novelty.
